Are you sitting at your desk, gazing out the window at the blue skies and sunshine and wishing you were anywhere but at the office? Being productive at work during the summer months can definitely be a challenge, but there are a few ways to keep yourself motivated and your mind energized, even though the sunny skies are calling your name. Below are a few tips to help stay motivated at work during the summer season
Set Daily Goals
Most people work to reach some type of goal, whether it be a certain salary, a position within the company or gaining new experiences. Remember that every day on the job could lead you one step closer toward your goal. If the end goal isn’t enough to motivate you on a daily basis, set shorter-term daily goals. Make a list of things you want to accomplish within the day and cross each task off the list when it is completed. Having a visual roadmap will help the day go by faster and give you a feeling of accomplishment as you cross each task off the list.
Focus on the Big Picture
No matter how small your task may seem, or how tempted you are to run outside and enjoy the sunshine, remember that you have a hand in helping reach the company’s end goal through your daily tasks.
Brighten Your Day
When the 2 p.m. slump hits, it can be difficult to rally your energy for the rest of the workday. Take a break by going for a short walk, having a snack or listening to music that motivates you. A break in the monotony will help you realign your focus. If you need inspiration, talk to an energetic or positive-minded co-worker. Their good mood will rub off on you, giving you an extra boost in your day.
Be Proud of Your Work
After working on a project for weeks or crossing another task off your list, you will feel relief when the project ends and a new one can begin. Make sure to give yourself credit for any project or assignment you complete. Most importantly, when someone compliments you on a job well-done, don’t brush off the compliment. Say “thank you” and take pride in your work.
Concentration during summer can be difficult, but try the above tips to see if they help. Setting goals, focusing on the big picture, taking breaks and recognizing a job well-done all give your day direction toward an end goal. Focus on your work and take time to enjoy the small pleasures in life.
